This easy black bean hummus is the perfect dip for chips, fresh veggies or by the spoonful! It requires a blender & can be made in under 10 minutes! It is vegan, gluten-free & plant-based with protein & fibre from the black beans.

Why Easy Black Bean Hummus?

Black beans are full of protein & fibre. What does this mean? They will help you stay fuller for longer & more satiated after your meals. Black beans are a great source of plant-based protein making them a great addition & staple to a vegan or vegetarian diet.

Black beans also offer a distinct & unique flavour profile compared to chickpeas, which is what is used in traditional hummus. When paired with cumin, paprika, garlic & more black beans make an incredible fun, versatile & fresh version of “hummus.”

What to do with this easy black bean hummus

You can use black bean hummus the same way you would use regular hummus, serve with chips, veggies, flatbread, crackers, etc. You can even use it on sandwiches, homemade burritos or tacos, or in a homemade nacho dip. Black bean hummus makes a great bean layer when paired with salsa, sour cream, guacamole & cheese as well!

How to store this easy black bean hummus

Black bean hummus is best stored in an air-sealed container in the fridge. This recipe makes quite a large batch so it’s perfect for parties, BBQs, or meal prep for the week for your family! If you want to make a smaller batch simply half this recipe.

Ingredients you will need for this easy black bean hummus:

  • 2 cans of black beans
  • 1 carrot
  • diced tomatoes
  • shallots
  • fresh cilantro
  • garlic cloves
  • 1 jalapeño
  • avocado or extra-virgin olive oil
  • cumin 
  • paprika
  • pink salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 lemon

How to make easy black bean hummus

All you need is a blender, & I guess a can opener for the beans! Then you simply throw all of those ingredients into the blender, taste as you go if you wish & add more spices, salt, pepper or lemon as needed! It really is as simple as it sounds & then you have a delicious, healthy dip prepped for your week ahead!

Description

This easy black bean hummus is the perfect dip for chips, fresh veggies or by the spoonful! It requires a blender & can be made in under 10 minutes! It is vegan, gluten-free & plant-based with protein & fibre from the black beans.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans of black beans, rinsed & drained
  • 1 carrot, roughly chopped & peeled
  • 3 shallots, roughly chopped & peeled
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (I used canned)
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 jalapeño, seeds removed
  • 1/3 cup avocado or extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp pink salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 lemon, juiced

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a blender & pulse/blend until smooth & creamy.
  2. Feel free to taste as you go & adjust for your preferences.
  3. Serve with a garnish of cilantro, diced jalapeño, etc.  
  4. Store in an air-sealed container in the fridge & enjoy!
