This healthy vegan Nutella is so rich, creamy & just the right mix of hazelnuts & chocolate! Perfect for toast, drizzled over berries or just eaten by the spoonful!

Easy healthy vegan nutella!
If you have a blender or a food processor this recipe is going to be so easy for you to whip up! I grew up loving Nutella but personally don’t love all the sugar & added ingredients in it. This is made with only a few key ingredients & truly tastes like such a treat. If you love that chocolate-y hazelnut flavour you are going to love this recipe!
Vegan & dairy-free nutella
I used just a couple tbsp of coconut oil (or hazelnut oil) in this recipe so you don’t have to worry about any dairy there. The other thing you want to make sure you get dairy-free & vegan to keep this recipe dairy-free are the chocolate chips. I love these ones for dairy-free & vegan baking. But there are lots of great brands out there so just be sure to read the ingredients when purchasing!
Can I make this healthy vegan nutella sugar-free?
Yes! It is actually pretty easy to do. You are going to want to make sure you use sugar-free chocolate chips. These are my favourite for low-sugar & keto baking but keep in mind they do have dairy. So if you’re trying to keep this recipe dairy-free opt for the dairy-free chocolate chips I recommended instead.
The other thing you’re going to want to do is to make sure you’re using a sugar-free sweetener if you are choosing to use a sweetener in this recipe. I didn’t find it needed a sweetener but if you want things sweeter & lower-sugar I recommend using this powdered sweetener!

How to store this healthy vegan nutella
I like to store it in the fridge. I find it lasts longer this way, however, it does firm up a bit in the fridge so you can take it out a few minutes to warm up before using so that it becomes a bit more ‘spreadable.’
You can also leave it on the counter if you don’t plan on having it around for too long! I doubt it will be able to stay around very long because it is addicting & so delicious!
What can I use it on
Anything & everything! I love it on toast or bagels, drizzled over fruit or blended into some hot milk for a chocolate-y-hazelnut-y drink! The possibilities are endless so I definitely encourage you to get creative!
Ingredients you will need
- Raw hazelnuts or dry roasted & skinned (if you buy them dry-roasted & skinned you can skip steps 1-4)
- Dark chocolate (I like this one for low sugar & this one for dairy-free)
- Coconut oil, melted (or hazelnut oil)
- Pink salt
- Vanilla extract
- Cacao or cocoa powder
- *optional sweetener of choice (powdered coconut sugar, powdered sugar, Lakanto, etc)

Description
This healthy vegan Nutella is so rich, creamy & just the right mix of hazelnuts & chocolate! Perfect for toast, drizzled over berries or just eaten by the spoonful!
Ingredients
- 2 cups of raw hazelnuts or dry roasted & skinned (if you buy them dry-roasted & skinned you can skip steps 1-4)
- 1 cup dark chocolate (I like this one for low sugar & this one for dairy-free)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted (or hazelnut oil)
- 1/4 tsp pink salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp cacao or cocoa powder
*optional sweetener of choice (powdered coconut sugar, powdered sugar, Lakanto, etc)
Instructions
- If you did not buy pre-dry roasted & skinned hazelnuts you are going to want to do that first. Set your oven to 350 F.
- Line a baking pan with parchment paper & evenly spread out the hazelnuts.
- Roast them for 10-12 minutes, until fragrant.
- Let them cool slightly & then begin to peel off the skins. They should come off easily.**
- Once the skins are removed add your hazelnuts to a powerful blender or food processor.
- Blend until the nuts start to clump together & form somewhat of a ‘clumpy’ paste.
- Melt the dark chocolate & the coconut oil in 15 second intervals in the microwave (or over low heat on a stovetop), mixing after every 15 seconds until smooth.
- Add this to the blender with the pink salt, vanilla & cocoa powder until smooth & creamy.
- Store in a mason jar or air-sealed container, enjoy!
- Note: if you want it a bit sweeter you can mix in a few tbsp of your preferred sweetener of choice. I would recommend a powdered sweetener.
Notes
*To make powdered coconut sugar, simply blend coconut sugar in a blender until a powder has formed.
**You can also rub them between paper towel or a tea towel to get the skins off as well.
