The best gluten-free eats: PEI edition! I have been gluten-free for around 6 years now, so I like to consider myself pretty well versed in the gluten-free department. Whether that’s product recommendations, drinks, or restaurants/cafes to hit up with a great variety of gluten-free options, I got you!
Eating gluten-free on PEI
This blog post is going to focus on some of my favourite locations for gluten-free options! I get SO excited when a restaurant or cafe has a wide range of gluten-free options. Over the past summer I have found myself heading to many different locations over the island & documenting what I got, what I loved, & my overall experience there!
I am going to continually add to this blog post as I find new locations that I love. Or if I find a new gluten-free dish or item that I am loving I will add it to this post!
I know how frustrating it can be to find out a cafe or restaurant doesn’t have anything other than a salad so this post is going to condense it down for you to hopefully help you find a delicious gluten-free meal on PEI if that is what you are looking for!
If you have friends or family that are gluten-free & live on the island or are visiting, send them this blog post! If they have been to any great gluten-free PEI locations, have them leave a comment, or if you have, leave me a comment & let me know! I love getting new recommendations & suggestions & would love to hear from you!

Wheelhouse in Georgetown
Alright first up, is a HUGE favourite of mine. I have already been here a handful of times & it is about an hour drive from where I live (worth it). The Wheelhouse in Georgetown is a must see place if you 1) love seafood &/or 2) are gluten-free. I was so impressed with the variety of gluten-free options they offer, one being gluten-free fish & chips (WHAT!) this is super rare to find anywhere but they use a gluten-free batter for their fish & chips so everyone gets #glutenfree fish & chips & doesn’t even know it!
If you are a fish & chips lover this is your scene. Another great gluten-free option I love at the Wheelhouse is the halibut! Such a delicious, light, creamy meal with perfectly done halibut, sure to please even your non-gluten-free friends & family too!
Next thing I got at the Wheelhouse on one of my many visits there were the oysters. I am not a huge oyster gal myself but definitely dabble with them from time to time!
And lastly, but not pictured is the famous “Salt Daddy” lobster melt. I was able to get this on a gluten-free bun (which was actually excellent in itself) & WOW. One of the best things I have ever eaten. If you are a lobster roll fan & want an option to make it gluten-free get this on the gluten-free bun #foreverchanged!
Note: I am not sure if the fries are made in the same fryer as other gluten-containing products, so I would double check by calling in advance or asking your server!

Peake’s Quay in Charlottetown
As you can tell, I love a good lobster roll. This was from Peakes Quay in Charlottetown & was excellent! Paired with some sweet potato fries, it was a match made in heaven with the beautiful warm breeze coming from the water. Peakes offers a great atmosphere & had many gluten-free options which was great! I have also had the haddock in the past which can be made gluten-free too but that was last summer & not pictured here!
Note: I am not sure if the fries are made in the same fryer as other gluten-containing products, so I would double check by calling in advance or asking your server!

Leonhard’s Cafe in Charlottetown
I used to love Leonhard’s before going gluten-free (their focaccia is unreal). When I went there for the first time since being gluten-free I was so pleasantly surprised to see they had gluten-free bread & were able to make any sandwich gluten-free! I got the special that day which was roast beef & lots of other goodness on there as well!
I believe they have many gluten-free soup & salad options daily as well! So whether you’re looking for a good gluten-free sandwich, salad or soup, this is a great place to check out! They also had lots of fun drinks & a super fun vibe right in downtown Charlottetown!

Cow’s Ice Cream
Now it’s time for dessert! Cow’s Ice Cream has a lot of gluten-free flavour options, two of my all time favourite being Wowie Cowie & Gooey Mooey! You simply have to get your ice cream in a dish as the cone isn’t gluten-free. They also can make any ice cream flavour into a milkshake. So as long as you pick a gluten-free flavour you can also get a milkshake if that if what you’re into! What I also like about Cow’s is the symbol “GF” is beside each gluten-free flavour so it’s easy to see what is available when you are checking out all the flavours.
I hope you find this helpful & remember that I will continue to add to this post as I discover new places on PEI that offer gluten-free options for all my gluten-free friends! If you have any places you recommend I check out & a favourite dish or item there please leave me a comment & let me know! I would love to hear from you!
Eat up & enjoy!
